Interlibrary Loan Lending Information and Policies

Institutions seeking to borrow materials from the Wheaton College Library through interlibrary loan should place a request through OCLC’s ILLiad system.

Individuals

Individuals should contact Interlibrary Loan services at their home institution or local public library.

Chapter and Article Scans

Odyssey is the primary delivery method for chapter/article scans in PDF format. For institutions which do not use Odyssey, articles are uploaded to OCLC Article Exchange.

Materials for Loan

The following types of material are available for interlibrary lending and document delivery:

  • Books, except for items in non-circulating and reference collections.
    • Items in a multi-volume set may be limited on a case-by-case basis.
  • Periodicals are not loaned but may be available for fulfillment through a scanned PDF.
  • Dissertations and theses are not loaned but may be available for fulfillment through a scanned PDF on a case-by-case basis.
  • Bound Music

Materials Not for Loan

The following types of materials are not available for interlibrary lending:

  • Periodicals (i.e. newspapers, magazines, journals, etc.)
  • Bound dissertations and theses
  • Audio and video materials including CDs, cassettes, sound recordings, vinyl records, videocassettes, DVDs, etc.
  • Material that is on the hold shelf
  • Unbound or loose music
  • Archival, rare, or special collections material
  • Microfilm or microfiche
  • Educational kits or mixed materials

Loan Period

Physical items are typically loaned for 4 weeks.

Renewals

Two renewal periods of 3 weeks may be granted.
