Entry Procedure

The Wheaton College Library exists primarily to serve Wheaton College faculty, students, and staff, as well as I-Share library users, visitors to the College, and members of the public in support of study, learning, and research.

Visitors who are not Wheaton College students and who are under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent, guardian, or teacher.

Atmosphere of Study and Concentration

The Library seeks to facilitate an atmosphere of study and concentration and promote the safety of everyone in the building. All library employees and users of the library should avoid making excessive noise while using the library. In order to promote a safe and secure environment for its users, the Library reserves the right to limit access to its facilities in accordance with Wheaton College policies.

  • Library users must not violate the Wheaton College Technology Acceptable Use Policy.
  • Library users must not make use of collections, equipment, services, or space in ways that the Library Administration deems to be excessive or problematic for other users.
  • Library users must not engage in any activity that is unsafe, illegal, or that disturbs others from using the Library.
  • Library users must not use bicycles, scooters, skates, or other like means of transport within the Library except to support a user’s medical or accessibility needs.
  • Library users must wear appropriate clothing, including shoes.
  • Library users must avoid damaging or defacing library materials, resources, or spaces.
  • Library users must secure bicycles only to designated bicycle racks.
  • Library users must avoid distributing or posting any surveys, signs, or materials outside of spaces designated for this purpose and in violation of Wheaton College signage and poster policies.
  • Library users must not view or expose others to obscene or pornographic images.
  • Library users must not enter staff areas without permission.
  • Library users must not bring animals into the building except for service or assistance animals.
  • Library users should avoid napping or sleeping anywhere in the building.
  • Library users must comply with all lawful instructions from library staff or employees and must leave the building at closing.
