Special Collections collects materials of noted adherents to the Christian faith, particularly those who have a significant relationship with Wheaton College and/or evangelical Christianity. The College Archives, the preeminent collection within Special Collections, documents the history of Wheaton College, and its predecessor, the Illinois Institute.

Prominent collections of personal papers include Oswald Chambers, John Piper, Madeleine L'Engle, Frederick Buechner, and Malcolm Muggeridge. Organization records include the National Association of Evangelicals, Sojourners, and American Scientific Affiliation. Additionally, Special Collections houses rare book collections, and the Evangelism and Missions Collection provides research-level support in the fields of evangelism and missions.
